Kitchen day 5 - looking good! And things were going so swimmingly. The problem with leaving us with a half finished kitchen over a weekend is that we are going to use it and spot problems with it. We have identified a few snags that are going to need fixing.

  1. You can see daylight through the gap hereChipped woodwork. The wall cupboards out of shot are chipped on one side, probably happened during transportation but it is noticeable and is a definite replace.
  2. No bin. We asked for an integrated bin with seperate compartments for plastics, tins etc. Nowhere to be seen.
  3. Cabinets not flush. Couple of the cabinets aren’t flush to the wall and need remounting. Not too much of an issue as these are also the ones that are chipped.
  4. No fridge. It would appear that NEF are replacing the model that we wanted but didn’t tell the kitchen companies. The upshot is that we either have to choose another or wait a few weeks for the new model. As we are currently living off a little temporary fridge I think that we will wait. We have all NEF appliances for everything else and I would rather keep to one company for all warranty concerns in the kitchen.

Karndean's Da Vinci Sandstone may end up in our kitchenSo there we have it. Kitchen cupboards are there. Lighting still to do, and we have selected wall tiles and just need to get the plumber in to put them in. We have also picked (we think) the flooring from Karndean and are awaiting a quote.

So as it stands we have a chance of getting this all done before baby arrives. Carnage at home today with this, the blinds being fitted and BT coming around to install some new sockets (DECT and new born babies don’t go well together apparently). All in all the carnage at Hatson Towers continues and probably will do for the next 18 or so years!

From the window - our new mini breakfast bar :)
