Well I guess it was inevitable. Few have fought the gadget monster and lived to tell the tale, and I barely escaped with my life, only the swanky MDA Vario II from t-mobile appeased the beast and forced it to retreat to its cave, sated. For the time being.

So my new gadget lets me get my emails on the move, compose blog posts, surf the web at near broadband speeds (selected areas only) and generally ensure my mobile productivity. Oh, and send photos of me pulling stupid faces to friends and family. MMS? What a genius idea. Pity it costs so damn much.

So my lovely new gadget is a veritable hub of functionality. It can even stream TV in 3g areas (such as the work toilet cubicles), although all of the channels seem to be american, which has limited interest for me. It also runs MSN messenger which allows me to be as unproductive as I’ve been in the past at work, albeit now on a much smaller keyboard.

One disadvantage of all this functionality is that switch it all on at once and your battery will be flat before you can say “hey, i only charged the battery this morning…”

The most amazing thing about this device is the memory it uses. MicroSD cards are just slightly larger than James Bond’s microdot, and carry enough capacity for a full movie to be stored for watching in 5 minute lav trip increments. 1mm thick, 11mm wide, 15mm long, it really is micro, and perhaps too small for its own good - a borrower couldn’t even use this as a snowboard, which means that I am bound to lose it.
