A lot of people I coach come to me for coaching for something specific. For example:

  • I want a better job
  • I want my business profits to improve
  • I want to lose weight
  • I want to quit smoking

You get the theme. They want things. It would be fair to say that 99% of people who come to me for coaching have already prescribed the thing that they want.

Prescribed? What do you mean?

Well in my experience… it’s not the car \ job \ woman \ weightloss that people actually want.

They want the feelings that they attach to those things.

That’s right, feelings.

Here’s an example. Think of something that you want, it could be an item, a job, a lifestyle, whatever.

Now, with that thing that you thought you wanted clearly in mind, ask yourself this question.

What does that thing give you?

Then whatever answer comes up, I want you to ask yourself the same question again until you can’t come up with anything else. If you’ve done what I asked, chances are you’ve got yourself back to a feeling, a sensation, something internal that, hopefully, makes you feel good, right? THAT is what you want, the thing that you thought you wanted was just you presenting an example of what would give you that feeling.

Now, with that feeling in mind, what ELSE that you currently have in your life that gives you that feeling NOW?

You see, if you understand yourself and what you REALLY want, then you have infinite flexibility on how you can get more of it, and you will also see more opportunities to get it than the guy who works his socks off to buy a Porsche only to discover that it isn’t what he really wanted, and he’s lost his girlfriend in the process.

You are taking this in different way, But i hope this is effective. I know different person may have other perceptions but this is right. When we walk on the path which we think is right.
