Lost Season 2So last night saw the return to British TV of cult show Lost for its second season. Thankfully Channel Four didn’t make us wait until september and so we pick up where we left off with a 2 part opener showing the guys heading down through the hatch, and what happened to the intrepid sailors and their raft.

We also get introduced to a slightly barmy scottish bloke who lives in a little bunker and types lottery numbers in to a very old fashioned computer. Confused? You should be. Overall it was an excellent, exciting start to the new season despite asking more questions than it answered, and leaving us on a major ciffhanger as it looks like Mike, Jin and Sawyer are about to die.

What is in that damn hole? Sorry Kate I was talking about the hatchMy only complaint is the damn adverts on Channel Four. Is there really a need for the first string of adverts to start after the first two minutes of the show? Absolutely ridiculous.

This is of course no surprise, as Channel Four are already under investigation for their excessive advertising.

That groan aside, it looks like tuesday nights are going to be stay-ins for the forseeable future. They had better not shift Lost around when the inevitable Big Brother starts…

watchtHeskies, Doctor, watchtHeskies....Just finished watching the second episode of the new Dr Who series, and I must say that so far it is very good. This episode was not only scary and spooky, but well acted and having some really impressive SFX. Featuring a CGI werewolf, the BBC have clearly upped the budget from the first series, which did suffer from some pretty lame effects at times. The werewolf here though was excellent, beautifully animated and genuinely scary.

Although I was disappointed when Christopher Ecclestone left the role, David Tennant is turning out to be a rather cool Doctor, continuing the rather enigmatic Doctor creared by his predecessor. He also seems to have a fair amount of chemistry with Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler.

Next week it looks like we will see the return of  K-9, and the episode also made the first reference to the forthcoming spin-off, Torchwood, featuring the Captain Jack (John Barrowman) from the previous series.

Caprica Six doesn't realise that her dress is a little too revealingWell season 2 of Battlestar Galactica has been absolutely awesome. It took the storylines in to new areas, developed the characters and genuinely surpassed any thoughts of it being a remake. The original pales in to comparison now. Never afraid to send the story in unexpected directions, the finale really takes this to an extreme by offering a haven to the weary travellers: New Caprica. Nestles in the heart of a cloaking nebula, this unoccupied offers a place to start again for many of the colonists, and scheming Baltar seizes this as an opportunity to win the presidency. When Roslin fixes the election, it is left to Adama to stand for democracy, and so Baltar is elected president and orders that the fleet settle on New Caprica. (more…)

Crazy Tim WonnacottIt beggars belief that a programme that costs more to make than the money it dishes out to the competitors can be so entertaining. I missed out on this programme when David Dickinson used to be in it, but the current presenter Tim Wonnacott is barking mad, and it is amusing if only for the stunningly poor profits (losses?) that most teams make.

The principle error is that the whole premise of the programme is in error due to a misunderstanding of the supply chain for antiques.

What are you on about I hear you ask? Right well here goes. (more…)

Whoa just watched the season 2 finale of Battlestar Galactica, could this show get any better? The arrival of Pegasus has taken the whole story up a notch - where are the Cylons? They don’t need them with all of that going on! My only complaint is that the series just isn’t long enough, and finishing the season on a cliffhanger like that is just damn mean. (more…)
