Well Jenny finishes work at the end of the month and then we really are imminently expecting baby. Apart from the house still looking like a building site (we are in to phase 3: kitchen and screwing squeaky floorboards down), all expected to be finished mid-april, everything is ready and to be honest it’s all dragging on a bit.
Whilst I’m not wishing that the baby be premature, waiting 9 months is a really long time, and I’m really looking forward to meeting him her.

Jen’s antenatal classes are going well apart from one snag; I can’t go, the classes are women only. Feeling left out, I’ve booked us in to a 2 day course with a local company, bump to baby. Run by a couple of ex Childbirth trust employees, it is expensive, but at least it gives us the chance to prepare for the grisly experience of childbirth together.

Hospital bags are packed and ive got myself an extra memorycard for the psp to store some movies on, I just need a spare battery. Apparently women often follow the pattern of birth of their mother, in terms of when they go in to labour and how long labour is. Jen’s mum gave birth to her a week early and was in labour for 12 whole hours, so I think that I can handle that (although accepting that I don’t have to squeeze a baby shaped item out of me)….

I spend a lot of time in front of a computer. My average working week might be 3 days in the office, doing presentations, spreadsheets, documents etc, and a couple of days in meetings or in the car. In addition I have to maintain my music collection, update my ipod, buy and sell on ebay etc, all of which require further sitting on ass.

So I thought whether, if it was available, whether I would have a computer or computer interface surgically implanted in me to make my life easier and allow me to do complex spreadsheeting whilst on the rowing machine. (more…)

“What are you looking for?” She asks me, standing, cross-armed in WHSmith, her frown suggests many hours of frustrated waiting, yet in reality is nothing compared to the vacant days I have spent slouched against Next doorways, wondering if there is a special badge for trying on everything in the shop without a coffee break.

“Stuff, or T3″ I say, scanning the magazine lines for my monthly gadget fix.

“Oh” she says, arms crossing tighter, “Another gadget mag, what are you planning to buy now?”

“Nothing really, just, you know keeping up to date.”

Which is of course a lie. I am planning to buy them all, every gadget known to man, whether they have a use in reality or not. I can’t help it, not only am I a bloke, but I studied engineering which means I have equal desires in the latest kit and also wondering how they fit all that functionality in to a small but perfectly formed, nay sexy shape. In years gone by my gadgeteering desires came close to outstripping my income, but much zen training has strengthened my willpower to the point where reading about mp3 watches and pocket PVRs is almost enough to sate my appetite.
