Well I got my copy of
Hell Island off ebay for a tenner, hopefully it will sate my Armalite MH-12 Maghook desires for a while. Unfortunately Matthew Reilly’s next book isn’t a Scarecrow novel, but maybe the gun shows up anyway. Checked again at the
Armalite site, but no they still don’t make one. Probably because it’s physically impossible to get a rocket propelled magnet with high-speed retraction wheel on to something that doesn’t require a mains lead. Still this is coming from someone who is still waiting for them to invent a real lightsaber so I won’t get too picky. Though imagine the carnage if they did invent either? How many maimed and mutilated people would there be down the ER if you could buy real lightsabers? “Sorry Mrs Smith we can’t sew Billy’s arm back on, as the wound is instantly cauterised to keep the rating down to a PG, no blood or cartillage you see?” The toys R us aisles would be strewn with decapitated nine year olds if they had a “push to try” hole on the box! And could you imagine the damage at a SciFi convention - who is badder Darth Vader or Yoda? Doesn’t even bear thinking about.
And yes a real maghook would cause civil unrest on a massive scale. People hanging from buildings, attached to the back of moving vehicles, and rocketing past at blinding speeds having pressed recoil instead of release? Perhaps it’s best that it remains fiction for the forseeable future, the human race is not ready for it.Anyway, Matthew Reilly’s new book is called
Seven Ancient Wonders, and I think that it hits UK shores in January. Aside from that there’s a music video to accompany footage that he’s shot for Contest. Won’t hold my breath, it looks like a bad Paul WS Anderson movie (is there any other kind? Sorry Paul but
AvP sucked the balls of so many dead donkeys, you know that idea that an infinite number of monkeys with typewriters would write the works of Shakespear? Well one monkey with a crayon could have beat your attempt!) The man needs a maghook fired squarely between the eyes.
Incidentally I checked out the pilot episode of Tripping the rift last night. Jesus how did those guys not get sued by George Lucas? Oh and the second generation of Six is much better than the dodgy one in the pilot.
And whilst we are on sci-fi, anyone out there watching Battlestar Galactica? The first series was good, great in parts, but the second season is awesome; more tangled webs than a spidery thing, and some great action to boot. Although it was sad to see Star Trek fall off the air, it was men against boys on the strength of season 2 of BG.
So that’ll do for now, got some Pysch to study so I’ll be back later asking you about your parents….
