Jeez, we actually used to play with these?Well Jenny is well at t-minus 6 weeks and counting, baby is still kicking like crazy and everything seems in good order.

Except sleep, that is.

Nobody told me about the sleep thing.

Jen’s having real trouble getting comfortable. All of the books tell her that sleeping on her back is bad for her and the baby, in fact it is uncomfortable for her due to the weight of the belly. However the weeble effect kicks in, where whatever position she assumes, her centre of gravity seems to pull her on to her back.

The end result? Not sleeping through the night.

And we all know what it’s like when you can’t get comfortable. First of all you get a bit annoyed which keeps you awake. Then you try to calm yourself down, but the inner voice goes off at a tangent leaving you thinking about war or politics or what needs doing before baby arrives. Then you manage to quieten yourself and before turning over, take a sneak peak at the time, which has the result of you putting pressure on yourself to get to sleep quickly. And then the evil cycle resumes back at trying to get comfortable.

Surely you remember weebles, right? Before you know it, it’s 4am and you might as well get up and do something as it’s now light and you are waiting for the heating to come on to signal that it’s six o’clock and the alarm will be going off soon.

Et cetera.

Jenny’s solution - and a sensible one, is to get me to calm her down and put her back to sleep. I’m not sure if it is a good thing that my voice makes her sleepy but there you go.

So 3.30 this morning I am awakened and I proceed to calm her down and she’s off to sleep by 4am. Excellent.

And so now fully awake, the cycle begins for me. By the time it got to 5.30 I was up and having breakfast. Might as well.

The upshot of it is that I’m totally knackered today and yet I am very aware that I probably had more sleep last night than I’m likely to get for months once baby is actually born…
