Just a quick note to say that if you find the whole blogging thing interesting (and you must if you are looking here, either that or you are after bikini pics of Ellie Chidzey), then head over to Blogger’s Haven for a neat system, no adverts and friendly people

I’ve decided to rename the “Record Of The Week” feature to “Tune Of The Week” seeing as nobody buys records anymore and if they did they would be called Disks. In the MP3 age even CDs are old hat. I’m therefore showing my increasing age and would prefer to seem ageless if only for fun.Â
This week sees the return of Nick Bracegirdle aka Chicane. Best selling artist who is known for tracks such as Offshore, Saltwater and Don’t Give Up (with crusty Canadian rocker Bryan Adams), Chicane’s latest track is Stoned In Love featuring an even crustier singer in the form of Tom Jones. With a surprisingly understated performance, Jones’ vocals work brilliantly with the typically cool dance track resulting in an excellent tune that sticks in your head and won’t let go.
It is also accompanied by a typically cool but odd video featuring a bank robbing couple where the man wears a Tom Jones Mask. Most odd. (more…)

Hmm strange one this. Good ol’ Bill Shatner seems to do some pretty wierd stuff (like being sued by ex wife over horse semen), but starting his own DVD club seems to me to be one of the wierdest.

Still I guess being a cult legend takes a strange turn at some point in your life (if you haven’t heard any of his music you should!) and every opportunity that is offered to you to make cash has got to be worth listening to whilst being sued over equine excretions.

It seems that Leicestershire is at the forefront of female exploitation this month with the opening of Bubbles n Babes in Burbage, about 12 miles from where we live.
Situated on a small industrial estate, Bubbles n Babes offer bikini and topless car wash services for £30 and £40 respectively. The moral uproar in the fairly well to do village has resulted in a wave of publicity and queues around the block. (more…)

The other day I yorped at length about states, in particular the managing of them using anchors. In my example, a deep breath out had become my anchor for my positive state.
So what is anchoring? Aristotle was a smart cookie when he stated that “When two things commonly occur together, the appearance of one will bring the other to mind” (the law of contiguity).
In explaining anchoring I thought that I would go back to a classic psychological experiment, Pavlov’s Dog, commonly called classical conditioning. Pavlov sounded a bell as the animal was given food. The animal salivated when it saw the food. After some parings of the bell and the food, the bell alone elicited salivation. Here, the bell had become associated with the food, and so the sound of a bell had become synonomous at an unconscious level with the arrival of food, eliciting salivation.
Anchors are stimuli that call forth states of mind - thoughts and emotions. For example, have you ever taken an immediate liking to someone that you have never met, although there is something about them that is familiar? Here the stranger exhibits some behaviour or physical likeness to someone that you like, and your mind involuntarily links liking to the new person. Many anchors are involuntary. So the smell of bread may take you back to your childhood. A tune may remind you of a certain person. A touch can bring back memories and the past states. These anchors work automatically and you may not be aware of the triggers.
Cool isn’t it? (more…)

It is rare that an emailed link actually interests me nowadays. Mostly they are good luck wishes promising me eternal fertility should I pass it on to 20 people, and that my manhood will wither and die should I stick the email straight in to my recycle bin.
However this one, a bizarrely hypnotic rag doll of George W Bush falling through an infinite sky of bubbles kept me rapt for some considerable time. It’s like a modern lava lamp that perhaps has some political satire relating to puppet leaders. Either that or the creator is bonkers and I’m thinking about it all too much.
Anyways check it out here:

You will need flash installed, and believe me it is worth getting to watch this oddity. Should George come to rest, pull him with your mouse and he is off again.

One of the key aspects of NLP that I am learning is the ability to manage states. Your “state” is effectively your mode of awareness. By mode I mean mode of operation, much like a computer or oven. Our mind is assaulted by an enormous amount of information every second of the day, but our state affects our attention to it. For example, all of the time we are receiving a tonne of data, including:
- Temperature
- Light levels
- A myriad of sounds
- Smells
- Whether it is windy
- How your feet are
- etc
Now that last one, the condition of your feet, is information that you are always receiving, but weren’t aware of until you read the list above. So I have changed your state, only slightly, but it is a change nonetheless.
So now that you realise that your state affects your perception, how do you think that your perception alters your behaviour?
It has an enormous effect. And here’s an example. (more…)

Most of you regulars will know that I’m a big fan of the Ricky Gervais show on podcast. It is a strange show in that most of the humour, in fact, speaking, doesn’t come from Ricky, or from writing \ directing partner Stephen Merchant, but from their old XFM producer, Karl Pilkington.
Karl’s view of the world differs from most through a fundamental misunderstanding of the basic laws of the universe. Gravity aside, theories of evolution, conservation of energy, time and space do not trouble his thoughts. Ever. My favourite idea of Karl’s is that they could make a watch that tells you how long you have left to live. Not sure why you would want to know but there you go. Other daft comments include:
“I’m saying, who’s happy at the end of this? You’ve got a fella who hasn’t got a present over here because their mate brought ‘em a goat. So there’s one bloke he’s not happy. Then, you’ve got the person who’s opened it, who like I said, wanted something else, right, it’s a goat, and they go ‘who’s gonna look after this?’, right, so another one, he’s not happy, and then you got the goat going ‘what am I doing here?””
-On Oxfam’s scheme to buy a goat for someone in Africa instead of an Xmas present for a friend. (more…)

Well I’m sat here in the nursery, happily checking my to do list for the weekend and congratulating myself on a bucketload of DIY jobs with little ticks next to them.
The house is nearly ready.
The nursery is now full of baby stuff; nappies, books, toys, all shrink wrapped and ready to go. The cot is fully decked out with blankets, bumper, cuddly toys and a little mobile.
We are nearly ready.
In fact it seems odd to be sat in a nursery without a baby to occupy it. We’re now in week 37 and I’ve just had a lesson from Jenny on how to put a nappy on (a baby) and it seems that the last week has taken for ever. If everything goes to schedule then in three weeks’ time we will be bringing a little person home to live with us, and I must say that I am excited. Jenny seems to have been pregnant for ever (a view which she most probably shares) and yet in these last couple of weeks when we have done little else but get the house ready, we probably haven’t appreciated the quiet that will probably never return to this house. Hopefully it will be replaced by giggling and laughter…

I wonder if anyone else is hooked by the wonderful lyrics “checking out my wigwam, checking out my boo, boo, boo”? No, well you soon will be as Wigwam, aka Alison Clarkson (aka Betty Boo) and Alex James (aka Blur bassist).
Apparently the two of them are friends and decided to create this barking mad but infectiously catchy tune which is plaguing my head night and day. In fact today I found myself humming it quietly in a boring meeting. People stared. People pointed. More than normal.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, take a look at the bizarre video shot on a rooftop with the pair performing the tune accompanied by a backing band of animals. Cool, wierd and a surefire number one should it make it to the Radio 1 playlist.
Wigwam was released on monday. Check out their website for more information.
